I read Fatal Option cover-to-cover on a cross-country flight and thoroughly enjoyed the complex and well-constructed storyline. I was impressed throughout by the way Chris Beakey crafted characters with the right amount of depth--even the minor characters--which is challenging with many intersecting story lines. His main character struggles with his moral compass and the conflict between commitment to family and what is the right, and leads the reader to wonder what one would do faced with the same situation. The attention to detail in his writing kept a complex set of threads separated until the right moments, only crossing when required to connect the story. Fatal Option held my attention and propelled me toward the final pages. I was unable to predict where the story was going, and was surprised at the end by the way the pieces twisted together. WOW! This complicated book was a joy to read!!
Every parent has a nightmare, This dad has so many, you wonder how he copes at all. His wife is dead and he's raising two teenagers on his own. That's scary enough, but the trouble they all fall into develops the characters and shows their strength and flaws. But at each turn and twist he does and the plot keeps you reading late into the night.
A great read with engaging, brilliantly flawed characters. Chris Beakey is a terrific writer who pulls you into his story and doesn't let you go until the last page.
Very few books ever gat a five star rating. This book is very well written. The characters are as real as they can be, and all the other cliches that book reviews have, but this book is a very good read and I recommend it to all. I did not want it to end, and it deserves a sequel. I would really like to know what happens next.

Before you dive in to Chris Beakey's Fatal Option, be forewarned this is a book that will wreak havoc on your nice, neat, orderly life as you will literally miss your metro stop, stay up way past your bedtime, and seriously risk playing hooky from work because you just can't put it down. Beakey's brisk prose plunges you into a world of characters whose heads climb inside yours - whether you want them to or not -and who will stay with you long after you have put the book down and stepped slowly away. Nothing is simple in any of these characters' lives, and each new chapter brings a coin toss that could land them in perdition or redemption. And most of them could 'deserve' either fate - you'll find yourself switching sides the more you learn about what makes them tick.
